IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION AND APPROVED USES for Natrelle® Breast Implants

Breast implants are not regarded as devices that last a lifetime. The longer someone has them, the higher the likelihood of complications, and some of these will call for additional surgery.

Breast implants have been linked to a cancer of the immune system called BIA-ALCL, short for breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Patients with textured implants are diagnosed more frequently than those with smooth implants, though the precise rates remain unknown. Deaths have occurred among some patients with BIA-ALCL.
BIA-ALCL, the formal name of which is breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, is an immune system cancer that has been tied to breast implants. Textured implants account for more cases than smooth ones, yet the exact rates have not been conclusively established. A number of patients have died of BIA-ALCL.

Individuals with breast implants have reported a range of systemic symptoms, including chronic fatigue, joint pain, muscle aches, confusion, autoimmune diseases, and more. The chance that any given patient will experience such symptoms has not been clearly determined.
Certain patients say their symptoms went away completely after their implants were taken out and not replaced.

Could I be a candidate for breast implants?

These are the approved uses for Natrelle® Breast Implants:

• Breast augmentation, for women aged 22 years or older (silicone-filled implants) and women aged 18 years or older (saline-filled implants). Augmentation covers primary surgery to enlarge the breasts, as well as revision surgery to correct or improve the outcome of a previous primary augmentation

• Reconstruction of the breast. This includes primary reconstruction to replace breast tissue lost due to cancer or trauma, or tissue that failed to develop properly because of a severe breast abnormality. Revision surgery is covered as well
a surgical procedure that revises or improves the results of an initial breast reconstruction

Who should not have breast implants?

• Women with an active infection anywhere in the body

Breast implant surgery should NOT be performed on:

• Women with breast cancer or precancerous conditions that have not received proper treatment

• Currently pregnant or breastfeeding women

What information should I share with my doctor?

Let your doctor know if any of these apply to you, since breast implant surgery can involve higher risks in such situations:

• Reduced blood supply to the breast tissue

• Conditions or medications that affect wound healing and blood clotting

• Chemotherapy or radiation therapy scheduled after implant placement

• A weakened immune system (e.g., taking medications that suppress the body's immune response)

• Autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus and scleroderma)

• A clinical diagnosis of depression or another mental health condition, such as body dysmorphic disorder or an eating disorder

• Anyone diagnosed with depression or another mental health condition should postpone breast implant surgery until those conditions have been resolved or have stabilized

What else should I be aware of?

• Breast implants come with a Boxed Warning. Please see the bold text at the beginning

• Many of the changes that happen to your breasts after implantation are irreversible. If you later decide to have your implants removed without replacing them, you may notice dimpling, puckering, wrinkling, or other cosmetic changes, and these may be permanent

• Breast implants are unlikely to be a one-time procedure. The longer you have the implants, the greater the chance of complications. Complications or unsatisfactory cosmetic outcomes will probably require additional breast surgeries. For this reason, you should also consider the complication rates of later (revision) surgery, as these risks could affect you in the future

• Cancer treatment and surgery will influence both the outcome and the timing of breast reconstruction

• Breast implants can interfere with your ability to breastfeed, either by lowering or completely stopping milk production NAT118934-v3 11/21

• A ruptured silicone-filled breast implant typically produces no noticeable signs. Even if you feel nothing, schedule your first ultrasound or MRI 5 to 6 years after your implant surgery and repeat it every 2 to 3 years, whether the implants were placed for reconstruction or augmentation. An MRI is recommended when symptoms point to a ruptured implant or when ultrasound findings are inconclusive. Additional imaging may be needed depending on your medical history and condition. How a ruptured silicone gel-filled breast implant affects your health has not been fully established

• Routine mammography screening for breast cancer becomes harder to perform, and the procedure itself may cause implants to rupture. Check yourself for cancer every month, and ask your surgeon to show you how to tell the implant apart from your breast tissue. Let your surgeon know about any lumps, ongoing pain, swelling, hardening, or change in the implant's shape, as imaging may be needed to evaluate them

What are the most significant complications linked to breast implants?

Reoperation, implant removal (with or without a replacement), silicone-filled implant rupture, and saline implant deflation are the chief complications, along with capsular contracture, where severe scar tissue develops around the implant. Other
complications are swelling, breast pain, asymmetry, implant malposition, wrinkling/rippling, hypertrophic scarring, nipple complications, and implant visibility/palpability.

Ask your doctor about further complications. More details are available in the brochures for patients at www.allergan.com/products. If you experience a problem with Natrelle® Breast Implants, call Allergan® at 1-800-624-4261 to report it.

Natrelle® Breast Implants can be bought and distributed only by licensed physicians, who must give patients information on the benefits and risks of breast implant surgery
